1 billion Yahoo accounts hacked

It took Yahoo three years to recognize a hacking attack, and now it reports information from 1B accounts is stolen by unknown intruders.

The attack happened in 2013, when hackers managed to broke into Yahoo servers where all account data is stored. Still, according to company's representatives, the situation is not that bad: stolen data includes only emails, logins, phone numbers, and dates of birth. Banking passwords and all other finance-related information has not leaked out.

The police already started looking for the responsible hacker group, however the details are not disclosed yet. Yahoo promises to provide any required assistance to help the investigation.

This case is not the first for Yahoo this year: in the first days of fall, the company announced detecting another breakdown that supposedly took place in Russia in 2014. At that time, 500 million accounts with emails, logins and passwords were stolen. However, Yahoo doesn't link the recent attack with the former one.
